Figures who teach pietas and founding
Twelve faces of household, omen, and the city
These figures are not an empire to join. They are a meaning-language: shrine, sibyl, gate, underworld, a fire kept for others. They come forward when your answers sound like duty to the given, a destiny gathered before the wind, and a life that must become a place.
The Lares · Ordinary loyalty at the door

Roman figures

THE LARES
Ordinary life is a household with its own small gods. The Lares teach pietas before plot: tend what is already yours. A journey that scorns the shrine at the door will not know how to come home.

THE SIBYL
The call can be leaves of a prophecy that scatter if you do not gather them. The Sibyl speaks a destiny larger than comfort. Write it down before the wind takes the wording.

DIDO
Refusal can be a love that would found a different city. Dido is the beautiful stay that is also a true life — and still not the road that was named. Honor the cost of leaving.

ANCHISES
A mentor may be a father you have to carry. Anchises is counsel that weighs, memory that must come with you. Help here is ancestral: you do not travel as an orphaned invention.

JANUS
The threshold looks both ways. Janus keeps the gate: you may look back, but you must step. Crossing is a public hinge — war and peace, old year and new — moved by a body in a doorway.

THE SHIELD
Tests arrive as a future you have to carry on your arm. The Shield shows allies, enemies, and a city not yet built. Fight with a picture of what the labor is for, not only of what opposes you.

THE GOLDEN BOUGH
The cave requires a token. The Golden Bough is the permission to descend — a living branch for the land of the dead. Approach is not bravado. It is knowing what the gate will accept.

DIS
The ordeal is an underworld that keeps accurate books. Dis does not theatricalize death. He requires you to see the unborn future among the dead, and to leave without stealing what is not yours yet.

VULCAN
The reward is work pulled from fire. Vulcan is a gift made, not found: armor for a life that still has to be lived. Take what the forge offers, and do not pretend it was effortless.

THE FOUNDING
The road back is marking a wall where there was only a hill. The Founding teaches integration as civic: the gift must become a place other people can inhabit, with ditches and laws.

ROMULUS
Resurrection is becoming the name of a people under pressure. Romulus is the new self proven in founding, not in private vision. Stand where the old claim returns, and answer as the city you are building.

VESTA
The elixir is a fire that must not go out for others. Vesta is not a trophy flame. It is the kept center of a common life. Pour the journey back as continuity someone else can warm their hands at.
